Ah Sizzler. The ol’ stand by when McDonalds isn’t good enough, but the welfare check hasn’t come in so you can’t go to Outback. I don’t know why people rag on Sizzler. I’ve never had a bad meal there. Never had a great one either, but still…. And everyone has a Sizzler story – just ask around:
Here are my top 3 Sizzler stories:
1) My baby brother BEGGED for the All-You-Care-to-Eat (sic) Salad Bar. So I got it for him and we sit down with our drinks. He takes his plate to the salad bar and brings back an apple and two packets of Saltines.
2) Geezer Fest 2004:
Old Bag: TEA! TEA! I want more tea!
Pedro the Waiter: Yes ma’am, right away. Did you have regular tea or raspberry?
Old Bag: Regular! REGULAR! Why on earth would I have raspberry tea?
3) Went to Sizzler with stoned friends, ten pounds of fried shrimp eaten.
Here’s a recipe for Sizzler’s Cheese Toast to hold you over until tomorrow when you can make a lunch trip over there:
1 Lb. Butter (slightly softened)
8 Oz. Grated Parmesan Cheese
Sliced Italian Bread
In a mixer, cream together the butter and cheese.
1. Preheat a griddle or large frying pan on medium−high.
2. Spread cheese mixture on bread about 1/4″ thick.
3. Place bread cheese side down on griddle. Cook until cheese
has browned.

I remember in 1978 you could get the Sizzler lunch special: Chopped Sirloin buger on a roll, fries and salad bar, plus drink $1.99
I still have a couple of steak knives I appropriated from there (21st and Wilshire, Santa Monica). The knives still work great. They were made in good old Japan, not China.
