Stumble It!

As a member of the MTV generation, I grew up with a total hard on for Hall and Oates. My mom liked them too, and one of the first records I remember listening to on my own was “Private Eyes” (which is still my favorite Hall and Oates record of all time). So I’ve been slowly getting into the 70’s Hall and Oates, and I’m really digging it. It’s kind of like glammy soul, or something like that. I’ve also come to the conclusion that Darryl Hall has NEVER had a decent hair cut. At least Oates was rocking the porno ’stache!
Here’s a video from 1973 for their hit “She’s Gone”. What kind of drugs were they doing when they made this? But my favorite part is when Darryl is smoking and they have a long pull-away shot of the ottoman. I wish I could tell what kind of smokes he was smoking!

They look like David Bowie and a Chippendale’s dancer. I could write a lengthy, meandering essay on the symbolism of the gayest Satan of all time helping Oates put on his jacket (not to mention the rest of the video). And from the looks of John Oates jacket at the end of the video, I’d bet he was heavily influenced by Dr. Kool…Come to think of it, I think that’s what he was smoking.
